- Seeing as how I was basically my own play tester , I`m in as good a position
- as is possible on giving a few hints and tips on how to play better in
- Ant Wars .
-
- 1) When trying to kill an enemy ant , always get in close proximity ( but not
- so close as to get blown up in your own explosion ! ) to the target . This
- improves your accuracy no end .
-
- 2) If you shoot at an ant and overshoot or fall short , for your next shot you
- should alter the angle to compensate , not the power . This is because the
- power increases a bit wierd the higher the value . For angles above 45 degrees,
- increasing the angle will cause the bomb to drop closer to you , and vice versa.
-
- 3) The optimum angle and power for any shot is 45 degrees and 50 power . This
- means that the longest possible range for any shot is about the width of the
- screen .
-
- 4) Games usually play better if both players spend their first go setting up
- one or two ants for an attack , rather than just running straight over and
- running out of whatever the plural of "go" is .
-
- 5) If you don`t really understand the different angles , try getting a
- protractor ( the funny semi-circle thing in mathematical sets ) ,as this has
- the different angles on it and should help you out .
-
- 6) A neat trick is to use the bazooka as a long distance mining tool .
-
- 7) Try using the mining tool to dig a pit for the other player so that they
- either have to bridge over the gap or use their helichopper .
-
- 8) When trying to shoot in the opposite direction to that which you`re facing
- the angle you want is always : 180 minus the angle at which you want to shoot .
-
- 9) If you`re unsure about whether or not an ant will be able to climb a slope ,
- remember that each ant can climb straight up 15 pixels . This is slightly
- higher than their own height .
-
- 10) A word of warning , there was one slight bug which I couldn`t quite fix .
- If you are trying to shoot at a thin piece of background or straight at an ant
- at 50 power , the missile can sometimes pass through the object you`re firing
- at . At powers lower than this the problem doesn`t crop up . The best way to
- avoid this is to shoot at the ground directly below the ant , as this is
- gauranteed to work . One reason why I decided not to fix this particular bug
- was that I`ve already spent a whole week trying to figure out a way to fix it ,
- but everything I tried screwed up the flight path of the missile .
- Anyway , it probably adds a bit of a random element to the game or something
- like that !
